This being one of those times more of the latter. Recently I have been having connection issues that I thought to be cause of a faulty router. Today it finally annoyed me enough to actually test everything to see what the actual cause was. After finding out it wasn't the ports on the router or the cables etc.., I discovered the problem was with the network adapter in the PC. I checked it and it was only running 10Mbps and had limited connectivity off and on so I yanked it out and put a new shiny one in. I feel like such a dummy for overlooking the most obvious thing that should have been the first thing I checked. Anyway the bad adapter was a Netgear card, which is among several Netgear products that I have had that have either failed or had serious issues. I stopped buying anything by Netgear (only Linksys now) a couple years ago but must have overlooked that last card. All of my systems have been purged of their Netgear impurities and everything is running just as it should. pfft.

BSG stuff here )

And I have this insane urge to eat an Almond Joy now :P

This morning I noticed in todays newspaper that Staples has quite a good sale on PC memory going. I spent the majority of the day talking myself out of wanting more memory but in the end I decided to swing by Staples after work just to see if they even had any. It was an impulse stop though once there and I saw they only had 3 sticks of the speed I need left so naturally I bought 2. So now I've upgraded to 2gb DDR total and it is rather nice. Technically it has been on my upgrade list for about a year now and when at such a good price ($29.98/stick after rebate for 512mb PC3200) it was difficult to pass it up. So I didn't. rawr

Unrelated to Sci-Fi Friday...just a few minutes ago I noticed a cloud of red smoke just hovering in the air. From a distance it looked kind of like car exhaust but then upon closer examination it appeared to be smoke and it was just there hovering. There was nothing burning and nothing around it where it could have came from. It kind of reminds me of the times I've seen insects doing the same, just hovering above something but this was clearly smokey in nature. Strange.

We had a storm last night and apparently the electricity here was out for a while because I immediately noticed my computer in hibernation mode this morning. The APC showed an overvoltage and was on the battery until it safely shut it down. Probably due to lightening because we did have some of that and I'm just thankful once again for the APC because last time that happened I lost a modem and a powerstrip to the storm. Time and time again this APC has sure proven it's worth to me and was worth every penny spent on it.

Today LJ's new little CSS cleaner that they implemented managed to wreck a tiny bit of havoc with my layout, though it was fairly easily remedied with the addition of !important to some of my CSS. So all is happy again in layout land.

On my computer somehow the onboard audio got enabled and I just now noticed it when I attempted to access the control panel and was spammed with error messages. I disabled it again, but I do wonder how it got enabled in the first place. I have made no changes to my pc in quite sometime. /shrug

I've missed most of tonights Lost and all of Invasion due to various circumstances, though thankfully they were recording so I can watch them tommorrow. Also what little I was able to watch of Lost and even the news now on ABC the audio is totally whacked. It keeps fading in and out and at times only plays softly through the back speakers. meh

Yes I'm a bit annoyed at the things above and I have to be at work in less then an hour. pfft. At least it's finally acting like Winter outside. It's pretty cold and has been gradually getting colder in the last few days. It even snowed a bit in Spingfield but didn't last long, though I have to say I gave up on the hopes of snow back in December and I'm now ready for Spring. It was quite nice out a couple weeks ago, very Spring-like weather and now it's getting colder. I blame the groundhog. Yep.

So the other night shortly after uploading the Santa Claholio picture the PSU in my computer decided to go sizzle sizzle poof. Got a new one from Staples this morning and after checking that everything was hooked up right, I turned on the PC and it wouldn't power on. Everything was connected properly and securly and after several frustrated attempts of powering it on I noticed the new PSU had two 12v 4pin connectors. I hadn't ever seen one with two so I never gave it a second thought. Well the other was bundled with the SATA connectors and once I noticed it, I used that one instead of the other and it powered on just fine. I wasn't even annoyed that I had overlooked such a silly detail becuase I'm just happy my computer is back up and running. I don't know what it is but it's like when the computer isn't working, it's constantly bugging me. Now I may go days without ever stepping near the computer, but if it's not working right it just chews at me until I fix it. Silly I know meh

So yesterday SWG servers were supposed to be down until 5pm CST for the NGE stuff and I was content in starting up the game after I got back from Karate class. Well my interent stopped working around noon yesterday and wasn't coming back up. I even called Tech Support and they said due to the storms it could be possible that some areas were out of service. Meh. I wait and try again this morning and it still isn't working. Now I had reset the modem, restarted the pc and everything several times just like always and I still wasn't having any luck. Although...what I didn't check was my router, it is on a seperate power supply and it needs resetting manually and I totally was overlooking that. So I reset the router and wahhhlaa it's working perfectly. Sometimes I feel so dense about overlooking the simplest of things bah.

So to make a long story short, I didn't get much SWG time in yet however what I did play I wasn't all that happy with. I hate the new GUI, the new commands, and the combat system. Now I'm still going to give it a bit of time, as it is just new to me and I need to unlearn the old way of playing and learn the new system. That still doesn't mean I have to like it. pfft

Sadly I am short one hard drive now, yep my good ole trusty Abydos drive died on me. Not a huge data loss or anything, it was just mainly a backup drive for install files and documents. I've had that hard drive for about five years and its been in and out of every computer I've owned, shuffled about, tossed here, thrown there and yet it still trucked on like a good little piece of hardware. oh well at least now I have good reason to go out and buy another 120gb or bigger like I have been wanting for some time now hehe

I started up one of my older PC's, a rusty P3 that I used mainly as a fileserver and I think I'm gonna install SWG on it and see how it handles it so I can run two clients at the same time. I can do that now on one PC but it sure lags me in cities and such and I don't want to take the chance and have a BH come after my Jedi and die due to the lag. We shall see though.

I really really need to take my Jedi Costume boots downtown to the leather shop and have the zipper fixed. It started to partially break while in Indianapolis at C3 then just about totally broke the night of the ROTS release. One boot is missing enough teeth now that it won't even zip. I don't see that it will be that difficult, I just basically need a new zipper put on, hopefully it won't be expensive or time consuming, so I can have them ready for Halloween night. Speaking of...I think my Halloween night plans might have gotten ruined as I see my schedule has been changed at work and I'm schedueled to work that night now bah

Oh and you can see Venus out tonight, could the other night too and it's pretty cool. hehe makes me think of an xfiles quote from the brillant episode Jose Chung's from Outer Space by one of the MIB dudes:

"Your scientists have yet to discover how neural networks create self-consciousness, let alone how the human brain processes two-dimensional retinal images into the three-dimensional phenomenon known as perception. Yet you somehow brazenly declare seeing is believing? Mister Crikenson, your scientific illiteracy makes me shudder, and I wouldn't flaunt your ignorance by telling anyone that you saw anything last night other than the planet Venus, because if you do, you're a dead man."

bahaha that eppy is bleeping hilarious :P

ah and I must get up early in the morning so I suppose I shall ZzZzZz now
