"In 2007 we saw a huge number of new and former players re-joining the Star Wars Galaxies community, and we attribute that directly to the high-quality features and content we've added to the game over the past two years," said Tom Nichols, senior director of online for LucasArts. "We look forward to continuing our work with Sony Online Entertainment to deliver even more content next year, based directly on what players have requested: additional heroic encounters, space-based content, and profession enhancements."

No SOE, what you did was cheat and deceive your loyal veteran players. SOE won't release numbers for just how many subscribers they actually have, but I recently read an article stating they have less than 100,000 with only about 20,000 being active. Either way, it's all just a matter of time.

Read the rest of the article here if you're interested, but I wouldn't waste my time.

No, I'm not still a little bitter about the whole SWG affair, why do you ask? I want the last 5 minutes of my time back.

For anyone who has played both Star Wars Galaxies and World of Warcraft... I've recently noticed that the jungle sounds of Stranglethorn Vale sound almost exactly like that of Kashyyyk. Ah, brings back memories of tearing through the Kkowir Forest on my Varactyl... *sigh*

Well I have finally done it, I have canceled all my SWG accounts. It was time really, the period of SWG has come to a close. I have written a bit on why I have decided this and a little of my SWG journey. It's under the cut and I will warn you it is pretty long and probably won't be of much interest to anyone who hasn't played the game.

Here it is )

Along with my goodbye to the game, I have thrown together a little slideshow of screenshots. This was actually pretty hard to do, I have over 1000 screenshots, many which I really like, so choosing which ones for the slideshow was kind of difficult. I think it does a decent job of chronicling my SWG experience. I have two of them, one larger which displays the screens at 640x480 and a smaller one that shows them at 320x240.

Farewell to SWG large (15.6mb)
Farewell to SWG small (4.78mb)

So to SWG I say…So long and thanks for all the fish!

So yesterday SWG servers were supposed to be down until 5pm CST for the NGE stuff and I was content in starting up the game after I got back from Karate class. Well my interent stopped working around noon yesterday and wasn't coming back up. I even called Tech Support and they said due to the storms it could be possible that some areas were out of service. Meh. I wait and try again this morning and it still isn't working. Now I had reset the modem, restarted the pc and everything several times just like always and I still wasn't having any luck. Although...what I didn't check was my router, it is on a seperate power supply and it needs resetting manually and I totally was overlooking that. So I reset the router and wahhhlaa it's working perfectly. Sometimes I feel so dense about overlooking the simplest of things bah.

So to make a long story short, I didn't get much SWG time in yet however what I did play I wasn't all that happy with. I hate the new GUI, the new commands, and the combat system. Now I'm still going to give it a bit of time, as it is just new to me and I need to unlearn the old way of playing and learn the new system. That still doesn't mean I have to like it. pfft

lol...But as of 22 minutes ago, SWG as we know it came to an end. Servers are down until 1700 Tuesday thus taking away the game we all knew and loved and bringing forth the NGE (New Game Experience). I haven't spent a whole lot of time on Test Center playing all the new stuff, so I can't really give much opinion on it just yet. The quests are fun and they do have a good story line, I'm just wondering if they will be enough to sustain my interest if I don't like all the new changes. I am however giving it the benefit of the doubt and will play it and give it a chance. Still though...it is a sad time tonight...

My last screenshot before the server shutdown. Sigh.

Trying out the new MyLJ thingy and its pretty handy and niftyo.

I was in a bit of an uproar earlier tonight when I found out my fears for SWG (the new CU2) were coming alive. After reading about it and hopefully being assured by SOE (yea right) that existing Jedi (and other veteran players) will get a few perks for staying with it when the changes go live I have deicded that I will give it the benefit of the doubt and see what it is all about. Hey who knows I might even like it and have lots of fun or it could just be another pothole in the road of how the game is slowly being ruined and on the verge of extinction. We shall see.

*points to new default icon* It shall be my temporary default icon while I make a new one along with a new LJ theme. I've been stuck on this HHGTTG kick and it's been my source of amusment lately. Got my ROTS DVD the other day and I've been itching to watch the additional footage & deleted scenes, I will be doing so soon I forsee.
