I had initially planned to write out a nice big review, I even took a few notes because I knew I'd surely forget stuff and now that I've watched it and am sitting here words are failing me. I'm still recovering from and contemplating it so I just have a few random scattered thoughts.
There were many, many things that I loved about it, only a few things that I didn't and overall I'm satisfied and happy with it as an ending even though it was zomg so sad in so many parts.
Random things:
~ I ended up really liking how they intertwined the flashbacks with current happenings
~ Loved the red
~ The assault on the Cylon Colony looked frakking fantastic! And poor Galactica, she's a tough old girl and came through for them indeed.
~ Loved the parallel between the opera house and Galactica's CIC.
~ I was surprised when Cavil offed himself which at first I thought oddly out of character for him but I guess he'd rather do it himself then find himself at the mercy/hands of humans and the rebel Cylons.
~ Loved, loved, loved the music and how it was used throughout the episode. Bear, you're a genius.
~ Loved that the song was the coordinates to the new planet (New New Earth?) and that Starbuck brought them there.
~ I'm also content with Starbuck's ending and that what she was (an angel maybe?) wasn't explained. I like that they left that to the imagination because I think any other explanation would have fell short. I also liked Sam telling her that he'd see her on the other side and how she disappeared from talking with Lee. The only thing I'm not sure on is what was meant by the hybrid calling her the 'harbinger of death' unless it was meant that she would bring an end to the cycle that had repeated itself so many times but the end with all the robot stuff gave me the impression that it was indeed going to happen again.
~ Nearly all of the Laura scenes made me sad, I knew she was going to die and as sad as I am about that, I'm glad they didn't take the cop out and have her miraculously cured. It would have cheapened her story and effectiveness. Oh, but I cried. Especially during her scene with Doc Cottle and most the scenes with Bill. And I thought for a second that Bill wasn't going to land the Raptor but crash it into the ocean or a mountainside or something. I'm glad he didn't of course and I like that he talked about building the cabin.
~ I'm also so glad that Helo lived at the end, I feared he was a goner.
~ I never posted anything about but, but I saw a spoiler photo and read about the very end scene with head!Gaius & head!Six walking down the NYC street. I liked the bit with the all the robots and what's funny about that, one of those that they showed, I saw a thing about it on TV the other day at work and announced to my co-workers that it was the beginning of the Cylon race LOL. Hey, it probably could happen don't you think? Cylons and Terminators, oh yeah.
~ Also re: the ending, I got the impression from all the technology and robots that the cycle might be beginning again? But this human race (which is supposed to be us yeah?) isn't completely human, we'd be part Cylon as well. This explains much... we're all Cylons. hehe
Yeah, so I liked this and for a series finale, I am pleased. I need to watch it again and might have more to post at a later time.
During the commercials:
~ A teaser for Caprica - the extended pilot for it due out on DVD April 21st and it looks to be interesting.
~ Stargate
~ Star Trek 11 trailer - looks good but still holding further opinions/judgment until I see it.
~ Preview for a new show called Warehouse 13 which looks kind of interesting because of all the weird things. I like weird things.
So, I think that's all for now.
