Amazon.com is having some kind of super awesome DVD sale-o-rama for what their calling "science fiction month" that's nearly irresistible. What brought me to it of course was the mention of all the Star Trek series included in this sale for $35.49! Thirty-five freaking forty-nine a season! For any Trek series! ZOMG! This is fantastic!
They also have some series (SG-1, SGA, Bones and others) as buy one set, get one free and they are marked down to around 25-ish% off.
Also a Movie & TV store blowout with tons of movies and TV shows on sale.
And apparently they have a "sci-fi destination" for all things sci-fi called Cosmotopia which I've never noticed before tonight. Seriously, how did I not know about this before now? I must not be getting all my memos.
Must. Have. Them. All. Really though, this is too good a sale to pass up completely. I'm eagerly looking at the TNG sets because that's the Trek series I'm focusing on collecting now.
*we wants them allllll precious, yesss them allllll*

Date: 2008-04-22 04:26 pm (UTC)Oh, you don't have all the XF?? *surprised* I'd probably get that too if I were you :x *feeds your temptation*

Date: 2008-04-24 04:58 am (UTC)Let's see, I'm missing 4 seasons (counting the last two which for the longest time I said I'd never get but want them now) of XF. There are several shows that I'm missing a season or two (or more) and plan on finishing up hopefully sooner rather than later ;)

Date: 2008-04-24 03:18 pm (UTC)Well, how long is this sale on? :P :P :P Maybe u can complete a few collections :)

Date: 2008-04-24 05:51 pm (UTC)obsesslike, so I will get one of this or one of that instead of getting all of one first. :P(no subject)
Date: 2008-04-24 10:32 pm (UTC)Heh. I think many people jump between fandoms actually. I have a few I like but the passion varies from time to time. At the moment, I'm all about the X Files :P Only a few short months ago it was B5. I guess it's whatever I'm watching at the time heh.
(no subject)
Date: 2008-04-25 05:07 am (UTC)Yeah, I think you're right. I do tend to jump back and forth quite a bit, especially between those that I really love like Star Wars, Star Trek, Stargate & X-Files. Right now I'm obviously
obsessinginto DW but it's all still kind of new to me and exciting. At any moment I could flip right back into Star Wars or Trek mode in an instant. I love my fandoms :D(no subject)
Date: 2008-04-25 03:55 pm (UTC)I suppose one day in the not too distant future, dvd's probably won't even be anymore - then I'll have to have my collections on a hard drive or Apple TV or something. While the future can be cool, it can also be quite annoying with all the upgrades :s
I love my fandoms
Heh, ditto.

Date: 2008-04-26 11:17 pm (UTC)I remember going from VHS to DVD and didn't look back a second during it. While I still have all my old VHS, I haven't watched one in probably 7 or 8 years nor do I plan on ever watching them again. I re-bought most of the on DVD and while I don't think I'll do the say for say the Blu-Ray, I am looking forward to something smaller and more compact to keep media on. *loves technology* but yea all the constant upgrades and like 5 minutes after you buy something, it's already outdated is kind of annoying :P

I really can't see me replacing my lovely DVD's with another new thing. Ugh. I like technology but replacing collections can be bothersome and kinda heartbreaking. I miss a lot of my vinyl albums :( /sad. Although I did refuse to toss many of my more sentimental albums - they're sitting in the garage probably warped out of recognition. pffft. (I need my own house ASAP!)
LOL@ your very apt icon :D

Date: 2008-04-27 05:01 am (UTC)I like the idea of say an entire series of TV being on one little disc or something, much more space saving than huge honkin' DVD sets, though I wouldn't be getting rid of my DVDs anytime soon even if they did do that.
I don't have any vinyl albums that I used to have, I'm surprised I even found some cassette tapes that one time. I'm kind of a keeper of those things too (I think we discussed this that one time I posted all that old stuff) and sometimes don't want to get rid of them :P
hehe :D

Date: 2008-04-28 01:48 am (UTC)I too like the idea of a whole series being on a little disc, I must admit. But then...what about all the nice booklets and pix and stuff? *lower lip quiver* I likes mah swanky cover art and pix! (one of the main reasons I'm hanging on to my albums! :P) I'm thinking if something comes out on a tiny disc - you'd need a magnifying glass to see said art lol!! *imagines art the size of a postage stamp*
Ohhh. Cassettes *pets them* I have a love/hate thing with cassettes. I *always* thought they were so inferior, sound-wise (and many were) - but I loved how you could take them anywhere lol! I've tossed tones of cassettes but, again b/c I am sad, I still have a rare few that I've kept - just for sentimental reasons. Did you ever make end-of-year cassettes? Brian and I did. It was a ritual b/c many times compilation albums/cd's didn't include songs we loved, so we made our own version. Gee...I haven't done that in *ages* I kinda miss it :/
That icon of yours is *gorgeous* btw. I can't stop admiring it :D SG Atlantis, is it?
(no subject)
Date: 2008-04-28 03:54 am (UTC)Oh, true, I do like the little info/pic booklet. Maybe they'll make it so that you can either keep the little disc contained in a smaller compact case or if you'd rather, where it fits inside a larger case with the booklet. Kind of like how they make the DVD type cases for Playstation memory cards. LOL @ images the size of stamps! I could never see them then, I'd have to squint at it all the time! Better invest in a good magnifying glass then hehe
Oh yes, I made tons of mix tapes. I also did it with things on TV/movies, like I'd put the cassette deck up to the TV and play a tape and record favorite scenes and stuff and compile them on cassettes so I could listen to them anywhere. I also remember the day I got a dual cassette recorder and though it was the best thing in the world to be able to copy from other cassettes. lol :P I mix nearly all my own CDs even now with favorite songs and such and I'll even admit I may have made a few of those TV/movie recordings though I haven't done that in awhile actually. :P
Thanks, I like it too and knew the first time I saw it I had to use it. Yep, its Atlantis indeed. :)

Date: 2008-04-28 04:11 pm (UTC)True, true. Who knows, maybe you're the smarter one of the two of us here :D Maybe an avid collector will pay you squillions for all your VHS tapes. That'd be my luck, actually. Then I'll pout b/c you're rolling in money and I'm not - just b/c you had the foresight to keep your tapes. *can make angst out of anything* LOL! ;p

Oh!! Good idea! I never thought of that! :D Ok, bring on the future discs then!
lol!! I also did the TV/Movie thing! I actually remember recording Some Kind of Wonderful onto tape so I could listen to it anywhere (idk why I was so obsessed, but I was :P) And oh yeah, dual cassette recorders were the best! My dad got a really expensive one and I was forever 'borrowing' it lol! It actually only conked out a couple years ago :( But it totally rocked.
I'd like to mix my own CD's, actually, but I'm so out of touch with music now I probably wouldn't be able to fill one :P This may make me sound ancient but I simply don't think music is as good as it used to be. I bailed on any and all chart shows here b/c they were rubbish imho (most are off air now anyway) and there's really no new band or artist that excites me. *le sigh* Brian has always been the one totally obsessed with music (he's like Simon Cowell but better imho) and he plays me songs he loves and ones that will w/out a doubt chart (latest being Leona Lewis who he predicted big things for when she was on X-Factor. I scoffed when he told be she'd crack America. Shows what I know :P) But yeah, apart from the odd song and my faves...I'm meh about most music these days.
Except Nickleback and Fiddy ;p (I really don't get the Nickelback hate btw. Just sayin'.)

heehe it's a good movie that's why! :D
I wouldn't say I'm into any specific band or artist but I have a wider range of just songs that I like, I may absolutely love a song by a band but not like anything else they've done. *shrugs* But I still love listening to 80's music too because the 80's rocked :D And I've never heard of Leona Lewis (of course that means nothing lol) but I'm curious now and might have to look up some of her songs.
No hatin' of Nickleback from me, I like 'em :P

Date: 2008-05-01 01:09 am (UTC)It really is!
heee. Totally. I also enjoy the 70's and some 90's too. But mid-to-late 90's onwards things seemed to start going downhill fast. I'm not sure why - all the production 'bands/artists' most likely. Just...gah. And don't even get me started on dance/trance 'music'. :x /mini rant.
re: Leona (from Wiki) "Leona Louise Lewis is a British pop singer and winner of the third series of The X Factor UK television talent show. Her UK debut single, "A Moment like This", was released in December 2006, breaking a world record after it was downloaded over 50,000 times within 30 minutes.[2]
Her second single, "Bleeding Love," was the biggest-selling single of 2007 in the United Kingdom, topped several other national singles charts and became a number one single on the first week in France on March 22 and number one in the US on April 5, 2008.[3][4]
Her debut album, Spirit, was released in Europe in November 2007, and became the fastest-selling debut album ever in both the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.[5][6] Released in North America in April 2008, Spirit debuted at number one in the US Billboard 200 chart and made Lewis the first British artist to debut atop of the chart with a debut album.[7][8][9]
With her album reaching number one in at least three continents and nine countries, Lewis has had the most successful launch of any television talent show winner ever.[10]"
(I'm not a fan btw. I still haven't even heard one of her songs LOL! :x Ionly know of her b/c of Brian)
Yay for more in common lol! I actually didn't know much about them - but then Sasha dragged Brian and me to Bon Jovi a couple of years back and they opened for them. I was an instant fan :D
(no subject)
Date: 2008-05-01 07:26 am (UTC)And thanks for the info! :D I'm still interested (mostly because generally things I don't know about interest me :P) and will probably try and find a song or two by her.
oooh yah Bon Jovi too :D Sadly, I've never been to a real concert, not like that at least. Because I don't count when someone comes here and 'performs' it's certainly not like a 'real' concert would be :P
(no subject)
Date: 2008-05-01 09:54 pm (UTC)Really? Not ever? Not even as a teenager?? O.o Wow. I think you're the first person I've ever met who didn't obsess (in a good way) over a band or artist of some sort. So whose posters did you have on your wall at home then?
Heh. Ditto. If I fall over something I don't know, I tend to read up on it.
I actually don't like Bon Jovi that much :x S is the mega fan. Brian and I went b/c Sasha
beggedasked us and the Bounce CD was really good - so we thought 'why not'. So when they came again and S asked if we'd like to go we said sure. But if it weren't for her we wouldn't have gone :P BUT! I would've missed Nickelback if we hadn't gone so...it's all good ;DSo, is Branson too small for a 'real' concert then?
(no subject)
Date: 2008-05-02 04:28 am (UTC)Oh, I like Bon Jovi, both his old and new stuff and he still looks so good even today! :D
Not too small no, but it's kind of bills itself on 'clean family focused' entertainment which is mostly country music and live entertainment. We do occasionally have more alternative/rock people who come but the shows are kept a pretty tight rein on, not like something you'd find in say St. Louis or Kansas City.
(no subject)
Date: 2008-05-02 05:06 pm (UTC)I liked BJ's earlier stuff and I thought Bounce was wicked - and you're right - i guess he himself looks fairly good still. He's certainly fit, I'll give him that! If I did a hundredth of what he does on stage, I'd be dead from exhaustion. He must just live at the gym ;p
You guys must get pretty cool country artists then :D If you've seen Dolly Parton I'll be green with envy! She does tour this neck of the woods but honestly, her tickets are gone in minutes. Everyone adores her and we've missed her twice thanks to the tix disappearing in the blink of an eye -.- Boo.

Date: 2008-05-03 06:52 am (UTC)Actually we do get several big name country artists a year which is great if you're a country fan I guess ;P Does Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede (http://www.dixiestampede.com/branson.php) count? :P She doesn't actually perform in it or anything but it's a pretty good show, one of the better and more entertaining ones. I remember once back when I was in school some friends and I spotted her bus/caravan in town and chased it all the way downtown to Steak & Shake. We chatted with the band and they gave us autographs but we didn't actually get to see her because they said she wasn't feeling well or something. They were pretty nice though and it was fun :P Aww, it's too bad you've missed her, so she's really that popular there? That's pretty cool, she is quite a talented person. Maybe you'll catch her next time :)
(no subject)
Date: 2008-05-03 05:17 pm (UTC)I'm curious to see what their new stuff will sound like too.
Oh, that sounds soo cool, the Dixie Stampede! Have you been?
It's so nice the band gave u guys autographs and stuff too. That was sweet of them. Aww she wasn't feeling well :/ Boo. Yes, Dolly (and country in general) is very popular. This surprised us when we first came back (Garth Brooks was huge then) and we were O.o But then there was this show on TV a while back that was tracing all sorts of music and, apparently, country has it's roots in Irish music, or something like that - so I thought maybe that explained it. There's certainly the fiddle/violin guitar & piano elements that are quite similar and I actually recall Dolly saying that on an interview here too, now that I think about it. Honestly though - i don't think you need to be a fan of country per se to love Dolly. Her music is soooooo catchy and she's so sweet and so much fun :D I am crazy about her new song "Better Get To Livin" Have you heard it or seen it? /rave
Yeah, I hope so too lol!

Date: 2008-05-04 01:27 am (UTC)I have been several times and it's really a good show (it's a dinner show so you get food too) I'd say one of the better ones we have here.
Yeah those guys were pretty nice and I'm sure Dolly is a sweet person, she always appears to be in things. She was on American Idol this year as a guest and they all had to sing Dolly songs, she was pretty funny. Don't think I've heard her new song though, at least the title doesn't sound familiar. I'll have to look that one up to and check it out :D

Date: 2008-05-05 01:18 am (UTC)Ohhh. Dinner and a show sounds good :D Do you have many show/dinner type places?? I can't even think of one around here :/ Gah.
I concur - I think Dolly is a total sweetheart. And - she's a great laugh too. Here's her song on YouTube. I love it BUT - I have some issues with the advice.
Often, life isn't that simple. It's not easy to pick yourself up and 'get to livin'. Especially if you're clinically depressed or something. Or had your dreams crushed to oblivion. But, that said, I do know it's just a song at the same time :P
*goes to bed singing Dolly*
