stargater: (sga weir imagine)

Honestly, I can't say that I'm disappointed nor surprised at this news. This was a long time coming and I'm actually a bit shocked it even lasted as long as it did. Atlantis & SG-1 were two great shows that unfortunately were stretched beyond their limits. As much as I may dislike seeing the passing of a good show, I'd rather see it end with a bang rather than a whimper. Unfortunately, I feel it's too late for that bang with both Stargate shows but at least it's finally coming to rest. Also, I'm alright with continuing DVD movies in the same way I am with the SG-1 movies. I do still need my Rodney fill after all :P

Here's the article at GateWorld and here's the original announcement from Multichannel News. Joe Mallozzi has also confirmed this on his blog.

I'm glad it's coming to an end. Well past its time, IMO.

I know exactly how you feel. This was me with ST: VOY. It had gone beyond crap and when they announced it was canceled, i was just relieved. It'd started watching Buffy instead of it by that stage actually. It sucked, HARD. So yes- I know how you feel.

I hope the DVD movies redeem the show for you SG fans :)

I don't know about the Atlantis movies, at least with SG-1 they can bring back O'Neill and all but they probably won't bring back (at least in a good way) offed characters from Atlantis. Still, I don't mind seeing some DVD movie releases :D

Ohhh. There's dead chars? :/ That sucks ;.; Maybe they can go back in time or something? or AU or something Treklike. Remember All Good Things and Tasha? :D *is optimistic for you*

True though I don't hold much hope out for that. Still, I guess I can only wait and see :P

*snort*

They green-lit Stargate Universe but. So it's not like stargate is dead. Mind you it's set on a ship in space so might as well be :P

Yeah, I read about that. I however am reserving any judgment on it until I actually see it. I'm not opposed to it being set on a ship though, I actually kind of like the idea because it'll be different from what they've already done.

Stargate is turning Trek-like with it's spin-offs don't you think? ;P

I'm torn. On the one hand I want the franchise to live. On the other hand, I don't much like Atlantis and dislike ship-centred 'gate even more. Didn't much like that talk about SGU appealing to a younger audience either. 'Hip' is something stargate doesn't do very well imo.

Yeh innit terrible? Stargate: Voyager much? =d

Ah the perils of being a fan from the very beginning of a series. :P

Oh, I understand, I'm sort of torn myself when it comes down to it. What I don't want is another crappy show that's gonna suck and make the Stargate fandom as a whole suck even worse. I'm a bit concerned about that younger audience appeal too, I worried about it turning into some sort of teen angst fest in space or something.

Maybe they can get Robert Picardo to play the friendly neighborhood medical hologram lol ;P

Ah yes, such as the way of things. Which is why I'm willing to give it a fair chance. I did with Atlantis and ended up liking it (the first 3 seasons mind you) so I'll give this one a go as well. And if it sucks, then I can always mock it :P

Well I avoid the fandom now so it doesn't bother me if it sucks. I mean, sane fandoms don't exist anyway :P
I worried about it turning into some sort of teen angst fest in space or something.
That thought occurred to me too, but I don't know that it'll happen. Remember the teen spoof in the 200th episode? Surely the writers do... =d

HAH Woolsey. Everytime he beams somewhere *cracks up again*

And if it sucks, then I can always mock it :P
Come now, mockage doesn't require suckage. You can mock it regardless of whether it's good =d

Well, that's so true, you're right. And being fans from the very beginning we have the right to mock as we please I'd say =P

I don't watch SGA, but that makes me sad. It seems wrong that there won't be a Stargate show on television. I hope they give it a decent ending.

Well, actually there is a new spin-off slated for 2009. It's called Stargate Universe and it's set aboard an ancient Ancient (lol) ship that once spread the Stargates across the universe. They gate to it and get stuck on it with no way home. Think of it kind of like Star Trek Voyager but in the Stargate-verse :P

Hmm, well, I still have to wait & see how I feel. :) What I can say is why can't other shows do this; straight-to-video films?

I think that too, it'd be a great way to wrap up any loose ends and possibly continue the series on if the DVD movie happens to be a hit. It probably all comes down to $$$ in the end which is a shame because I'm sure there are still loads of great stories to tell in other shows.

I'm sure it is, and it'd cost even more to do it due to sets no longer existing & such. Continuations can happen though...fans & dvd sales got Serenity to be made, and that was a few years after the show.

Indeed. Serenity is a perfect example of that. *nods*
