Trek Expo 06 recap

Pictures are also up, once again in the scrapbook (and resized 600x450) for now. Also possibly a tiny spoiler for SGA and BSG under the cut. hee

The Trek Expo this year was fun, it did seem a bit lower key then previous years though but it was good. It also seemed smaller, but it might just have been because everything was crowded into a smaller area then when it used to be in the expo center.

Most everyone we met and talked with were really nice and friendly. Jonathan Frakes (Will Riker - Star Trek TNG) is so much taller then I ever thought! He was nice and I really wish I could have seen him on stage on Saturday but it just wasn't feasible to try to make it early Saturday after getting back so late on Friday night from Vegas. I also wish I could have gotten a couple more pictures of him but the security people were kind of eyeing everyone and motioning people out of the room after the autograph.

Paul McGillion (Dr. Beckett - SGA) was pretty funny on stage and also very nice in person. He seeemd genuinely nice and was friendly. He talked about being an actor and a little about the show. Later during the auction, he got in stage to auction off some collectables that went towards charity. Included were a couple hats, a tshirt signed by the cast and a prop that was used in filming a season 3 episode - a stick used to probe a dead Genii soldier. It was kind of neat, when talking normally you can tell he has a bit of an accent but not like on the show, kind of like he can turn it on heavy when neaded. I like the accent though :P

Aaron Douglas (CPO Tyrol - BSG) was also interesting and pretty funny and seemed friendly as well. He talked about getting started as an actor and some stuff about the show. He seemed pretty down to earth and really casual. And he also said that in the upcoming season a major character is going to die. Of course we don't know who and seeing as I've been completely spoiler free for BSG this is the first I've heard about it. heh

During the auction, John Wesley Shipp (Barry Allen/The Flash) wore a pair of red shorts on stage to auction off and did a little dance to take them off. It was really amusing and I must say he has really nice legs!

While I was talking to J.G. Hertzler (General Martok - Star Trek DS9) he kept calling me a Tribble lover because I was wearing my new Tribble shirt (old retro style that inquires "Having Troube with Tribbles? Call us now, our hailing frequencies are open!") that I got in Las Vegas. He even wrote Tribble lover (Klingons and Tribbles don't like each other) on my autograph picture. It was amusing :P

Also during the auction, J.G. Hertzler and Robert O'Reilly (Chancellor Gowron - Star Trek TNG & DS9) performed the Klingon rap for the lady who won and it was really amusing.

The one person whom I didn't care much for was Robert Beltran (Chakotay - Star Trek Voyager) who while on stage tried to turn it into a personal political rally. I didn't appreciate some of the comments he made about certain people or the President nor did I think it appropriate to stand on stage at a Star Trek convention talking about such things. But enough about that.

Overall it was a good day spent and I actually withheld on spending tons of $$$ on things that I probably don't need anyway. I got the three autographs that I wanted most (Jonathan Frakes, Paul McGillion, J.G. Hertzler) and I was pleased with that. I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff as that tends to happen when I don't write down stuff right away and wait too long to do it. :P
