The theatre was absolutely freezing which was only amplified by the fact that the entire movie seemed to be be filmed in the snow. I also cringed when I saw a couple carry in an infant and sit down in the same row as us and sure enough the baby (probably about a year old) cried and wailed through probably the first hour of the movie. I really don't understand why people feel the need to bring babies to a movie theatre, a loud cinema is no place for a child that young. And I'm not sure what movie was playing next door but it was so loud I could hear the conversation and music over the top of ours at times, that was kind of annoying.

Anyway, onto the movie. I liked it, it was good though not quite what I was expecting. I was pretty much completely unspoiled save for the trailer and a few odd bits here and there. I now wish I had been spoiled then I think I wouldn't have had as high of expectations as I did. I really expected it to be more actiony and thrilling and with a more involved creature/monster than what we had. It could have been an episode, it didn't really seem movie-ish to me. Not saying it was bad, just not what I expected.

Mulder and Scully have definitely changed some, it's to be expected in the time that had passed as the movie takes place approximately 6 years after the end of the series. I liked that they're still together though I didn't care so much for the angsty way their relationship was handled at times. I didn't like the part where Scully tells Mulder that she's gonna leave because he's following through with this thing that she got him involved in. I felt that angst was unnecessary and that character wise they would have moved passed all that by now. The other bits were nice though and you really get the feeling that these two people know each other inside and out. Another irksome thing was that after Mulder got involved and was going forward with it, she wanted him to quit but yet in her own side story with the boy in the hospital she herself was in Mulder's shoes in that situation and was refusing to give up. I get the message they were trying to deliver, I liked it and it worked, I just think it would have been better received without those few overly angsty parts. Of course, this is X-Files and they do angst/drama about like no other.

There were a couple nods to the series and I loved the pencils stuck on the ceiling in Mulder's study. And I so knew after Scully found Mulder that he was going to make a dry comment about wrecking the car lol. Scully was certainly more fiery here, especially when she whacked that guy with the board/stick/2x4 whatever exactly it was. And when I say whacked, I mean totally clobbered, I wouldn't of wanted to get in her way by any means. Her reaction to some things kind of annoyed me at times as well, I suppose it was believable given what all has happened but it seemed out of character at times. I felt it was mostly because we had no real transition from before to now so it kind of takes you by surprise.

There were some good one liners and some great looks and facial expressions. One of my favorites was when Scully was in the car with Skinner (yay Skinner! That was a pleasant surprise but I wish he'd played more of a role in it) and they're looking for Mulder because he's missing and the look Scully gives him when he says that Mulder would call first because he wouldn't just go off and do something rash. lol

It was also missing an opening title, if I remember correctly FTF had it but this one just puts the name of the movie up then starts. I wanted to hear the whole theme music and all. Oh and I really liked the music that played as the end credits rolled, very cool.

Still, I did enjoy the movie and it was great seeing Mulder & Scully back in action. It brought back fond memories and while I need to process it all and probably watch it again, it leaves me feeling nostalgic.
