It's funny, I wouldn't call myself a huge fan of vampires and their kin either, really. That said, I loved Anne Rice's vampire books and I love the movie, too. But I never liked Whedon's vampires b/c they're utterly nonsensical. They're dead, but they can apparently still smoke and have sex. Go figure. One stupendously stupid S5 Angel episode had one vampire lose his limbs only to have them 'magically' grow back. I really can't articulate how much I hated how illogical Whedons vamps were. When Buffy first started actually, I remember a HUGE bitch fight between fans of Rice's vampires versus Whedons vamps.
