A tiny snippet from a fic I'm attempting to write. (SG-1 fic) No the entire fic isnt like this scene, but I'm developing the 'creature' and this flashed into my mind so I wrote it down. It's been awhile since I've been in the writing mood so I'm making as much use of it as I can. It has some grammatical errors and all still, but hey its after 1am and I need to get to sleep soon.
O’Neill had just cleared the tree line with Carter only a few feet ahead of him when he heard it. He stopped and looked to his left down the rocky hill and into the small clearing below. He could barely see it in the encroaching darkness, but he could make out the silhouette of wispy tendrils, snapping back and forth protruding from an unseen body. In that brief paused instance, he saw one tendril lash out and snag Carter from out from in front of him. He saw it carry her through the air and deposit her in the middle of the small clearing. She lay still, unmoving face down in the grass with the creature hovering above her. He looked down at Carter’s motionless form, then back at the creature still whipping and thrashing above her and there was only one thing for him to do. He started to run. He easily scaled the tiny rock ledge and was at the edge of the clearing in seconds. Then for the first time since SG-1 had arrived on P5X-313, a stroke of good luck or perhaps someone that was watching over them finally emerged. Dark storm clouds rolled through the sky blocking the last of the day’s sunlight. Glancing up at the creature he saw what had terrorized and haunted so many villagers, what had ultimately brought about their demise. For a brief second he saw into the nature of the creature and what he saw chilled him to the bone. It shrieked as it was no longer able to hide in the light and fled into the distance leaving him and Carter alone in the clearing. Hearing thunder and the approaching storm as he ran the remainder of the clearing, reaching Carter in a matter of seconds. He rolled her onto her back, found a fairly strong pulse and did a quick external exam for injuries. Except for a few scratches she seemed fine; he decided he would worry about any internal injuries after they made it to the safety of the cave. He didn’t waste any more time, he picked up her as gently as he could and begin again towards the entrance of the small cave. This time he didn’t look back.
