nocturnal notions

So Im sitting at work and then all of a sudden out of the blue I realize "Its Sunday!". I dont know why this thought hit me but for some reason I was struck with the point that it was Sunday and I had failed to notice that. It made me think back to when I was in college and Sunday nights were those cherished X-Files nights. To start off Sunday was a lazy day for me really, I would either lay around or catching up with studies and stuff I had neglected over the past couple of days that seemed to always be due on Monday. Of course tho, being the procrastinator that I am at times, I spit out some of the best work Ive ever done during those times. Anyways, it got me to thinking of the feelings a 'Sunday' would elicit. Such a relaxing and calm day really, sleeping in the morning, going to lunch with everyone and eating the same damn chicken with feathers still in it after it was fried for lunch every week. After lunch, a nice afternoon nap would follow then would be study catch up time. Nearing the 8pm mark, would come the wonderful hour of X-Files where we all would gather and watch it together. I miss the X-Files I really do, what a good show it used to be. Then after the show, would either be catching up on more studies time or usually for me more play time. Its not necessarily what we did on Sundays, but the feeling of just the general day brought about. Thinking of this today it sort of brought with it a sense of loss, a good, relaxing time that has gone past, but I realize there is many more of those right now, Ive just been letting them pass me by.
Also on the way home I have discovered something that is totally relaxing for me. Driving at night. Driving at night, with the radio cranked up to a respectable level and the glow of the dash lights softly eluminating the interior is rather soothing. This is the perfect time to think or not to think, which ever I choose. The night is a whole different world, a different set of people and the things that you see in day while physically unchanged are even a bit different. I also love the smell of gas stations and diesel fuel early in the morning at the break of dawn, before even the dew has had a chance to dissappear. ah, wonderous things these are.
A nice drive home I was having until the offensive stench of a dead skunk erupted into the car. peeeww. You would think they would have the courtesy not to get ran over if not for themselves but for the poor unsuspecting travelers who have to pass through their rancid wrath. sheeesh. No respect I tell you. None at all.
