I'm actually going to try and reserve most of my judgment for it until after next weeks ep The Poison Sky since they are a two-parter. I liked it but wasn't overly as zomg! about it as I have been with the previous episodes. Probably because I liked last weeks so much and I guess I kind of expected this to out-do it and I didn't feel it did, not that I'm disappointed with it though.
The Sontarans, I like 'em! And they do look like baked potato people! lol. It was amusing they mentioned it and also there was a Sontaran-potato reference in SJA from Friday night. I find them interesting and most curious about the fact that they weren't allowed to be a part the Time War. Now did I miss something before or is this the first time we've heard of the Doctor leading the battle? I know that he blames himself for what happened but it's got me wondering about those that did participate and why the Sontarans were left out of it. Must know more about the Time War!
Again the Doctor/Donna dynamic was good and Donna learning to fly the TARDIS was pretty amusing. It was cool seeing Martha again though I wasn't all 'omg it's martha!' or anything. I liked how she was brought back in and how the Doctor seeing her again and Donna meeting her for the first time went. I like that Donna & Martha got on so well (though I kind of doubt if/when Martha and Rose ever meet it won't be quite as happy chatty) and I especially like that Martha seems to have moved on nicely (ie: being engaged to Tom and working as a Doctor for UNIT) and is doing well. I really want that cleared up because I didn't want a bunch of angst left hanging around from it. Also, that bit where Martha told Donna about the Doctor and about 'standing too close and you get burned' kind of felt harsh to me. I suppose it's sort of true but it seemed like she might have been a little resentful about some of the things that happened and I'd really like to think that she wasn't. Though I do have a feeling that clone!Martha won't be quite as nice when coming across the Doctor and Donna again.
The part where Donna tells the Doctor that she's going home, alright even though I totally knew better I fell for it too. I was like 'what, no! she can't leave!' and then laughed at myself for thinking it in the first place. The Doctor rambling on then was cute and I like how he said that she had saved him. I liked the scene of Donna's flashbacks as she walked up the street to her house and yay gramps! I really like him and seriously they have to get him out of that car! My first thought was why didn't the Doctor just sonic the glass (like he did in AOG) and smash it but if the whole car is deadlocked I guess that wouldn't work.
Now for some recurring things: Obviously ATMOS again which by the way the GPS Nav in the cars reminded me of the evil that is OnStar *would never have an OnStar on board* Also, there was sort of a name reference when that Rattigan kid (who I don't like btw) said to the Sontaran leader about him not having a name. Probably a stretch but still. And the Medusa Cascade was mentioned again which by the way was also mentioned by the Master in LotTL. mmhmm interesting. And alas, no Rose mention/appearance anywhere at least not that I saw. Of course that doesn't mean she's still not one of the reoccurring themes and I'm sticking to it that she is, even if it does seem obvious.
Random things: lol @ "Mr. conditional clause". I was also amused by the Doctor and the soldiers exit/run from the car that didn't explode. lol @ "hug him and get a paper cut". lol @ "you wouldn't believe the day I'm having". Oh and clone goo is ewww.
Looking forward to the conclusion. Indeed.
