This won't be too long and not all that spoilerly. First off some theatre stuffs... It was showing here at the Elite Cinema and on the IMAX screen. I didn't want to wait for the only showing of it on the IMAX at 9pm, so I choose to attend the 11am showing at the Elite Cinema. A couple reasons I like the Elite Cinema... the climate is always just right, never too cold or too warm. Second, the chairs recline and are quite comfortable. And third, there's enough leg room for us long-legged folk to stretch out without kicking the chair in front of us. I was pleased it was showing there and not at Branson Meadows Cinema.
I also thought that by perhaps attending the morning show that the theatre wouldn't be as crowded and there might not be so many younger and noisy children. I was wrong on both accounts, it was jam packed (and the line for the next showing while I was exiting was ginormous) but all in all the whole crowd was quite good.
There was this one guy somewhere in the back that kept letting out these huge guffaws at strange times during the movie. I don't know what he was watching, but it must have been pretty funny. Everyone cheered when Dumbledore & Fawkes escaped in flames and when the Centaurs carried Umbridge off. hehe. And one of the funniest things was during the part where Lucius Malfoy was approaching Harry with the mask on, a kid nearby shouted "Darth Vader!" and when the mask disappears revealing Lucius, the kid groans "oooohhh" like he was really disappointed. Lol, that was funny.
Anyway, onto the movie... Overall I quite liked it and thought they did a pretty good job with it. Of course there were tons of things left out, this was to be expected though since the book was nearly 900 pages long FCOL! Some things though I thought to be fairly significant that were missing, like for instance the locket at the Black house. And some of the other characters that had pretty significant roles in the book barely showing up in the movie. Some other things as well, but I'm not going to list things that were missing that I thought should have been there. And even though I knew it wasn't going to be included, I missed the Quidditch scenes (Weasley is our king!) hehe. I am glad they included some of the stuff from Snape's Worst Memory, it was probably that chapter of the book that made be actually feel bad for Snape. And I also realized that he is sort of a tragic character and so complex, I have a bad feeling he is going to be killed in book 7. I am most curious about where his loyalty truly lies, though since the part in book 6 where he stops Harry from using the Crucio curse and what he says to him, I've thought he really is working for the right side and that he is loyal to Dumbledore all the way. Though we can only wait another whole wretched week and find out.
I liked Fred & George's exit from Hogwarts, though I thought I remembered it being a lot more extravagant. Still, it was good and amusing. I enjoyed the scenes in the Ministry, though I remember that to be a lot "more" as well. I do really wish I had had time to re-read the book before seeing the movie, but I have decided I will re-read it again anyway. I feel kind of sorry for those who hadn't read the books and are watching the movies, because there is just so much more to it that they were missing out on. Of course that's usually the case when movies are made from books anyway.
Again, I liked it and thought it was done well. It definitely has a different tone to it than the previous movies, of course so did the book. And boy did they all grow since the last movie! I mean some of them really look quite a bit older and not in a bad way or anything. hehe. I read that at the IMAX showing it's a 3D thing and they give you glasses for it. I'm probably going to go back and watch it again on the IMAX screen sometime soon. Indeed.
Thumbs up for this one. You should go watch it. Now.

Date: 2007-07-12 12:41 am (UTC)I have the same suspicion about Snape....I still have a feeling that he really is on the 'good' side. I hope he is -- I think it would make the story more interesting and make his character more complex. Props to J.K. though, she's got us all wondering!

I can't wait to know!

Date: 2007-07-15 02:04 am (UTC)Once I left the theater, I wanted to see it again, and on the drive away, was the first time Mundungus Fletcher popped into my mind, reminding me that he wasn't included. :P But yeah, I thought it was I guess reasonable, I suppose, more than I'd thought, though it really was too short; it shot by way too fast, and the transitioning bugged me just a tad. Also, was it just me or, was the stone circle gone? I wasn't exactly surprised, since hogwarts always gets changed but, I missed it, I've always liked it for some reason.
I loved that mentioning of Darth Lucius lol. Also, I also seemed to be laughing when others weren't, not really loud though, but was nonetheless. :P
I haven't decided if I wanna write about it or not...I did cry...for Sirius...but also even when Old Volde was in Harry's head. :p I enjoyed the incorporation of the past films.
