Coolies! I'm curious to hear some of your reactions as you watch TNG.

If you liked Serenity, you'll definitely like Firefly, I did the same thing, watched Serenity first then Firefly. I think things would have been more easily understandable by watching FF first, but it did leave me wanting to watch the back story and I really liked it.

I've read tons of Trek books but now I mostly stick with the DS9 relaunch books and post-Nemesis TNG books. Some of the older books are really bad and cheesy. But there are some older ones that are must reads because they're really good. I haven't read all the post-ENT books but probably will at some point.

And rofl @ your icon! Poor Daniel was always dieing, he's worst than a cat with 9 lives lol

Have you read the new Firefly comic series?

Could you recommend some ST books to read later?

I know what the hell poor Daniel. He's like a little abused puppy.

Looks like this comment thread is winding down *clings* LOL

I saw my first episode of Deep Space Nine last night. It was really good, and of course to be continued. The whole feel of the show was vastly different from Enterprise.

ooh, there's a comic series? I didn't even know about it! Does it pick up after Serenity? I'd be interested in looking it up.

oooh yes so many good ones. As for DS9, the relaunch (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Star_Trek:_Deep_Space_Nine_%28Pocket%29#Relaunch) books are some of the best Trek books I've ever read. Definitely start with the Avatar books though. Avatar takes place 3 months after the series finale, so it'd be good to have watched the series first.

As for TNG, two must reads are Peter David's Imzadi (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Imzadi_%28novel%29) novels. There's two of them, the first one is the best but despite the fact that a lot of people hated the second one, it is a good book. Post-TNG, the Titan (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Star_Trek:_Titan) books are really good, it's all about Riker's new command of the starship Titan. Also, the A Time to... (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Star_Trek:_A_Time_to...) series is good, all about the events of the Enterprise leading up to Nemesis.

I don't read TOS or VOY books so I can't offer much input there. If you really liked ENT, you'll probably like some of the post-series books, there's not a ton of them out yet, probably about 10 or so. I'm drawing a blank thinking of more books, but I know there are other really good ones out there. I'll be sure to pass it along when it comes to me.

My two favorite Trek authors are S.D. Perry & Peter David, anything by them are usually good, IMHO at least ;P

Might I inquire as to what episode of DS9 you watched? Everything about DS9 is very different from all of the other Trek shows. It's one of the reason some Trek fans don't like it, it's darker and more violent but the characters are more real, they have problems and make mistakes etc..., I also think the story is much more engaging, it really draws you into what's going on. But then again, I'm not biased towards it at all ;P

Do you mind if I friend you? I think we could have some interesting Trek/Sci-Fi conversations. :D

lol again @ Daniel *pets him*

The series takes place between Firefly and Serenity so it has Wash in it. I haven't read it yet. And then there is a standalone, off the top of my head I can't remember what it's a prequel to.

I'll have to bookmark those books. The only tv show novels I've read and liked were Star Wars when I was a kid and some Buffy books, mostly by Christopher Golden.

DS9... I didn't know it was darker the episode I saw wasn't. It was set on Earth and they thought that Changlings had taken out the power grid but it turned out to be a faction of Star Fleet. Sisko's very dramatic approach to dialogue amused me. And I absolutely loved Worf.

I'll probably watch it again if it's on, but I don't do overly angsty. I stopped watching Buffy after season 3 for that reason. Usually though, if the show is already over and I know it has a happy ending I'll be okay. But holy crap... you weren't kidding about it being darker. I just went on wiki and looked some stuff up...

Which leads me to the question, in the books does Sisko return from the Prophet's plane of existance? And is that as sad as it sounds?

I would love it if you friended me. I've already friended you, but do take a look at my profile in case there's anything about me that might bother you.

hehe yeah Avery Brooks (Sisko) really does the dramatic sometimes, but I think that's because he's more of a theatre actor than a tv/movie actor. Still, I liked him and while there are times where he does kind of overact a part, there are others where it was quite fitting and it is amusing hehe. I loved DS9-era Worf, he's also on TNG, but not quite as amusing as he is in DS9.

It's not really an angsty show, I mean there is some but it's not all angst like some other shows I've watched. I never watched Buffy/Angel but I know from people who did that was one of their main complaints.

Out of all my favorite shows, the ending of DS9 is probably my favorite finale. Despite the fact that friends/relationships were split or that Sisko stays in the Celestial Temple, the ending was not only fitting but good. It's really the first time I enjoyed a finale so much where things like that happened. I don't think the finale is sad at all, maybe a little bittersweet in parts, but overall I really liked how they did it and was pleased.

And yes Sisko does return in the following books, just in time to see the birth of his and Kasidy's baby, whom they name Rebecca. Everyone that leaves at the end of the show (Miles, Odo, Sisko etc..) are reunited along the way in the books.

:D
