For
faithnsin:
This is probably going to really cement my geekiness (my only saving grace may be that I did have to look a few of the words up in a book for proper spelling) but here goes... ;P
Do you speak Klingon: tlhIngan Hol Dajatlh'a'
I don't speak Klingon: tlhIngan Hol vIjatlhlaHbe'
Federation standard language: DIvI' Hol
Only: neH is an adverb but when following a noun means "only" or "alone"
I don't know if it's proper to combine the phrases together, but if someone asked me if I spoke Klingon, in Klingon I would reply:
tlhIngan Hol vIjatlhlaHbe' DIvI' Hol neH
That's roughly translated to "I don't speak Klingon, only Federation Standard."
Like I said, I don't know if it's correct to combine them like I have, but I don't see why they couldn't be. Then again, I don't really understand all the semantics of Klingon language. I'm lucky enough if I remember English half the time ;P
And just for the record, I do not consider myself as a Klingon speaking person, I really only know a few handfuls of phrases/words/insults, you know just the basics to get by when encountering a Klingon on a far away space station and such.
By the way, the phrase in the subject line: QuvlIjDaq yIH tu'be'lu'jaj! means "May your coordinates be free of Tribbles!"
hehe

Date: 2007-10-28 06:34 pm (UTC)I don't think of you as someone who walks around all day speaking Klingon, don't worry lol! (Although that could be soo fun I imagine *chortles*).
LMAO@ "May your coordinates be free of Tribbles!" I HAVE to work that in somewhere to someone! HAVE TO!
Thanks again for this. That was very sweet of you. <3 Now, if we just knew Romulan... ;p

Date: 2007-10-29 06:13 am (UTC)hehee oh yes that is the trick isn't it? That's what the tapes are for ;P And I just happened to cut some of these phrases out and upload them so you can hear it.
You can download it here (http://www.undamaged-destiny.net/files/klingon.wma), it's just a short 36 second wma file of the phrases above.
The only difference is that it has: Do you speak Federation Standard? (DIvI' Hol Dajatlh'a') but you can piece it apart for the different words. DIvI' Hol = Federation language, Dajatlh'a' = do you speak, tlhIngan Hol = Klingon langauge
I don't speak Klingon (tlhIngan Hol vIjatlhlaHbe')
I couldn't find "neH" used while searching the audio but it's pronounced like NEKH.
And of course: May your coordinates be free of Tribbles! (QuvlIjDaq yIH tu'be'lu'jaj!) heehe this one amuses me muchly, you do just HAVE to work it in somewhere! hee
*feels uber-geeky right about now* Listening to the audio (Conversational Klingon & Power Klingon) is actually pretty funny, there's a lot of growl-like noises but most of just sounds like your choking on something and trying to spit it back up. lol :P
Unfortunately, I am completely at a loss for Romulan, but I imagine it'd be fun too! eehe ;D

Date: 2007-10-29 07:22 pm (UTC)btw..."I don't speak Klingon" = Klingon WHORE something something. I swear, I chortled something wicked. Or, maybe it's just me :P
*Suddenly admires Michael Dorn and co. way more* 'tis not the easiest language to learn, is it? LOL.
Yeah - I always noted many growls and spits with the Klingon's. I bet many actors were accidentally spat on during filming lol!
Poor Romulans. They were a little underused, I think. I LOVED Romulan episodes.
[As I type, FF is flagging Romulan. Did it flag Klingon? nooooooo. pft. *adds it to dictionary & adopts Romulans* ]
*hangs head@lack of Romulan icon* :x

Date: 2007-10-30 05:10 am (UTC)lol, I chuckle at the pronunciations of several words, I bet when they made up that word that sounds like "whore" they get quite a laugh about it knowing people are going around uttering it :P
Michael Dorn narrates and talks on both of the Klingon language tapes, he makes it seem so easy! He's a natural Klingon! :D And lol @ the spitting, I think I remember reading an article long time ago in a magazine or something where they talked about that and how much spitting did actually occur. lol
I really liked the majority of the Romulan episodes as well, they are an interesting bunch of people that's for sure. And lol, it sure does flag Romulan and I always just ignored it *adds it to dictionary* silly FF, it should know more Trek names & places!
:( @ lack of Romulan icons, I don't have any either! But that's mostly because I've never come across one I like! Really, I don't see that many Romulan icons either.

Date: 2007-10-30 05:26 pm (UTC)Well, not to take away from Michael at all, but he probably sounds natural b/c he'd been speaking it for nearly 10+ years straight lol! I'd sort of worry if stumbled over it ;p
When you stop to think about the Internet (and in this case, FF) you'd think that the people who invented it would be Trekkie enough to include MOST Trek stuff. I mean yeah, we have Klingon (oh, and Borg!) But really, Romulan should be there too. Pft.
Yeah, I'll have to search for Romulan icons. Although tbh, even if I found one I'd almost be at a loss at which icon to delete for it. pft. Guess I'd just have to be more strict with myself or something lol. Although, as it is, I have like 6 more icons (NOT B5 ;p) waiting in the wings. idk. pft to lj for not giving us unlimited! :P

Exactly what I was thinking! I typed in a bunch of Trek planets/names and there are quite a few that are flagged. pfft, silly people need to get these things straight!
ooooh, unlimited icons would be wonderful! I have so many that I want to use but can't get rid of any! Even those I have uploaded that I don't use that often, I love them too much to delete them!

Date: 2007-10-30 11:33 pm (UTC)Word! re: Trek names/planets flagged. It seems to me that most 'net ppl would be Trekkies! Someone has some 'splainin' t'do!!
I'm exactly the same. I've a couple of icons I rarely if ever use - but I love them :x gah.
That Odo icon rocks LOL!! New by any chance? LOL!! *pets him*
