DW: The Unicorn and the Wasp

I loved this! It was light, fun, a little cracky and just all around oh so amusing. Definitely a favorite. It actually reminded me quite a bit of Tooth and Claw (which is fine because it's one of my all time favorite eps as well) for several reasons. First off Donna's fake accent and the Doctor telling her not to was reminiscent of Rose attempting the bad Scottish accent. Also, when the Doctor sees the Wasp for the first time and stares at it with a bit of wonderment and says "brilliant" was similar to his "beautiful" reaction to the Werewolf. And it was just fun, I like the light-hearted, fun and happy Doctor that we had here, something we rarely see anymore. I demand more of it.
I also loved all the Agatha Christie stuff as well as the who-dun-it murder mystery (oh how I do love a good mystery, especially a murder mystery) complete with secretive dinner guests and finger pointing. I thought the Vicar to be the murderer mostly because he was the only one they really didn't go in-depth about what secrety secret he was hiding though I didn't guess him to be the Wasp. For awhile I also was suspicious of the old waiter guy who brought the Doctor the poisoned drink.
Speaking of the poisoned drink... omg the kitchen scene was absolutely one of the funniest things ever! I laughed so hard and have even replayed it a couple times just because it amuses me so much. So. Freakin'. Hilarious. *loved it*
Random things... I love how the Doctor just spontaneously shouts things like "MAIDEN!!" at Agatha Christie from the piece of paper discovered on the floor. And I just knew the Doctor was going to lick or taste that morphic residue hahaha. I liked the music from the Doctor's flashback from being in Belgium (with the bow and arrows that looked kind of like the ones he had in Blink) and I wonder just what he had been doing there with said bow and arrows. And I loved when they were going from person to person figuring out who the murderer was how Donna was eating the whole time and kept saying "so he/she killed them!" lol. I love the Doctor's enthusiasm throughout the whole thing "solving a murder mystery with Agatha Christie, brilliant!" heehe. And the trunk of goodies under the TARDIS grating, I wonder what else he has stashed down there lol
Reoccurring things... Really, I didn't spot any this time unless you want to count the Wasp and the previous mentions of disappearing bees. There were several references to past episodes but none stand out to me as something that could be telling of this season's elusive finale. I'd say this was just a fun, comical stand-alone and was very much welcome by me.
Next episode looks interesting though I know virtually nothing about it. And I'm not sure, but the ep won't be on next week due to some Eurovision show or something but the week after? *pouts* Though there's supposedly a trailer that airs during it that has everyone all up in a stir about. I'll be excited if it contains what everyone says it does ;D

I wonder where that moment took place, before or after the event in Blink?
As I've been doing all season, I've been watching the Confidentials, and the one for this episode mentioned that David's dad was in it. He was one of the servants outside when The Doctor & Donna meet all the guests. :) The actress playing Agatha Christie was also actually David idea. They'd worked together before, one thing they were both particularly in was Bright Young Things. I saw it a couple months or so back & really liked it. I actually don't recall whether they had an actual scene together or not, don't think so, but they were both in it. David's role wasn't huge, but he's in it through out & was intricate to the plot. I enjoyed him as usual. :)
Really? Ah damn, o'well. Well, unless he's going to write one of the specials, that two-part story will then be Stephen Moffat's last DW story before being executive producer & head writer; maybe you've already heard, but I only just did last night via a poll on

Date: 2008-05-25 01:25 am (UTC)Well I'm not certain it was during Blink was it? I thought he looked like his attire and the arrows from Blink. I'd think maybe before it though I really don't know. hmm.
I've been watching the Confidentials for some of the episodes, I have the one for this last one but haven't watched just yet. No reason really, just haven't gotten around to it. I think that's so cool that David's dad was in it and the actress he worked with. I thought she did a good Agatha Christie. I haven't seen Bright Young Things but I know there's been a lot of talk about it, perhaps I'll have to look and see if Netflix has it.
Yep, heard about Stephen Moffat which is cool though I don't really see why everyone seems to dislike RTD so much. I think the next two-parter coming up is by Moffat if I remember correctly. I can only hope it's along the awesome that was TEC/TDD :D

Date: 2008-05-25 01:50 am (UTC)It's pretty good, and it's one of two things I've managed to see with David other than DW of course. The other was Casanova which was a BBC tv movie/short mini-series. It's, I think, how David probably got considered for Doctor Who because it was written by RTD; was also a producer, and produced by Julie Gardner. :)
idk, I don't really hate him & I'd be fine with him staying I suppose, but I'm interested in how the show'll be under Moffat's reign. Yes it is & me too :)

Date: 2008-05-26 09:50 pm (UTC)I've been meaning to get a hold of Casanova as well, I know of the things he's in, I just haven't gotten around to watch them yet. I didn't know it was done by RTD though. :)
I'm curious too and wonder how it'll be. I loved TEC/TDD and Blink but disliked GitF so I guess I'm sitting somewhere in the middle I suppose. Have you read/heard why RTD is leaving?

Date: 2008-05-26 10:42 pm (UTC)There's, I think, a couple other things I wanted to see with him, but they don't seem to be available in the states, or just not via Netflix or the library; I got both Casanova & BYT from library. I just haven't felt like finding a net alternative...
Well as you know, I love them all. ;P Nope, I haven't, so who knows if it was his decision or The BBC's.
