DW: The Stolen Earth

Interesting to say the least. I don't think it was completely what I was expecting, especially after last weeks episode of awesome but I quite liked it. And it was fanwanky and squeeful. And there's more to come! And 20 extra minutes of it! wheee.
So, 27 planets (well, 26 and a moon right?) stolen and that fit together like parts of an engine, forming a powerhouse for something. The Crucible? I'm assuming the Crucible is Davros' ship and possibly where he created the new Daleks. I'm still wondering where he hid undetected creating his new empire at all this time, perhaps in the parallel world or maybe even in the Void?
And what's this about Dalek Caan using the Emergency Temporal Shift and going back to the time-locked Time War and saving Davros? I wonder if it'll be explained how he did it exactly though I kind of doubt it. But it caused Dalek Caan to go nutters and also become a bit precognitive? Davros was cool (as was Dalek Supreme because red Dalek = awesome), he certainly is a good villain, as are the Daleks in general I think. I know lots of folks are groaning about the return of the Daleks again but I like them and I have a feeling that it's all going to come full circle in some way with the end of series 1. And also about Dalek Caan's prediction that the Doctor's most loyal companion is going to suffer everlasting death *worries* and I know there'd be differing opinions on who this would be but I've always believed Rose to be his most loyal companion. She's stood steadfastly by him loyally through everything and would sacrifice herself for him without blinking. That's not to say the others might not do the same but I just haven't seen the same kind of loyalty from them as I did from her. Though I still can't help but think it's going to be Donna that does something incredible and possibly die in the process *worries* And especially after everything that happened in Turn Left Donna still thinks she's no one important. That's even more reason for me to believe they're building that up for when she does something fantastic and blows us all away.
I was about to pull my hair out when everyone but Rose was on the sub-wave network. It was kind of sad, Rose sitting there unable to interact and then when the Doctor popped up on screen. And lol, I believe I detected a hint of jealousy there when Martha popped up. I'm still curious about what'll happen if/when they ever meet each other for real. And for the record, Donna totally does ship Ten/Rose lol.
And I just knew that reunion scene was too happy/perfect to be true. I so wanted a run-and-hug and it was perfect until that damn Dalek ruined it. I loved Donna saying "why don't you ask her yourself" and the music and the looks on both of their faces as they were running towards each other and especially the emotion coming from the Doctor. *squee* I really don't think anyone can deny that they love each other to pieces. There still better be a proper (complete with hugs) reunion dammit, I demand it!
Then ZOMGWTFBBQ!REGENERATION!!@#$#!11. Yeah, big old red herring there and I'm totally not falling for it. Though it's looking like that cractastic theory about Ten regenerating next to the hand just might come true at least in part. I'll admit I've grown kind of fond of it, especially if there's two of him and one goes off with Rose. Even if there's not two Ten's, I think that he'll regenerate back into his current body because of the hand nearby. I'd be totally shocked if he did regenerate into someone new, that'd be like the best kept secret in all of TV history. And besides, we know he's in the Christmas specials, unless of course they're flashbacks or something. And there's the set pics from Journey's End with Ten, Rose & Donna at Bad Wolf Bay, wearing a different colored suit mind you but it's still Ten.
Some random things:
I really like seeing everyone from all the different shows working together. And there's more next week since we haven't even seen Mickey or Jackie yet. Speaking of next week... where was the preview! I needs to see it! One thing that I hope doesn't happen is that we have another 'year that never was' that worked last series but I don't want it again.
We finally get to see the Shadow Proclamation, sort of a universal police force with the Judoon! I saw the promo pic of the Judoon but didn't put two and two together that they'd be working with the Shadow Proclamation but it makes sense. Also, when Donna was sitting on the steps, what was with the heartbeats? hmmmm. And the lady telling her that she 'had something on her back' and 'was something new' which makes me think back to Turn Left when she was asked by the fortune-teller 'what will you become?'. There is so much speculation about who or what Donna is and so many of the theories out there, while cracky do make some sort of sense. She's definitely special and is going to do something special, I just hope she doesn't die.
And the elusive Medusa Cascade, placed 1 second out of phase with the rest of the universe. I still kind of think someone's going to sacrifice them self to it, seal it again and set all the planets back where they belong. I also think and have since TPOW that Rose has something of Bad Wolf left in her and that it might possibly come to into play, rather or not with the Medusa Cascade exactly I'm not sure.
I really liked Harriet Jones here and I'm so glad they didn't make her evil or anything like those dumb rumors circling about had said. You know where she's the one who picked up the Master's ring and was working with Davros to conquer Earth and all that jazz. pffft. I lol'd every time someone said "we know who you are" even the Daleks. I wish she hadn't been exterminated but I liked her proud stand beforehand.
So, what exactly is the Osterhagen Key and what does 'The threefold man dances in the lonely places' mean? hmmm.
lol @ "Clom's gone? Who'd want Clom?"
Wilf and the paintball gun lol
Sylvia not allowing Wilf to have a webcam because they're naughty lol
Rose and her big honkin' space gun and saying to those kids stealing from the store "you like my gun?" lol
And Gwen and Ianto going all Rambo on the Daleks at Torchwood.
And zomgwtfbbq!regeneration again.
TO BE CONTINUED... that has to be the phrase of doooooom. Doooooom I tell you, dooooom!

Date: 2008-06-29 03:11 am (UTC)One thing you did say about the rift in the Medusa Cascade and someone having to sacrifice themselves to seal it up and save everyone. That so reminds me of the end of Season 5 of Buffy when she died sealing up the hole that Dawn's blood made. RTD has always said that he loves Buffy and I wonder if he's taken inspiration from that for the finale.

Date: 2008-06-29 12:35 pm (UTC)Interesting about Buffy, I know that RTD is a fan of Buffy though I've really not watched it so I only know little of it. But if that does happen, I bet that's surely his inspiration then. A little shout out to the Buffy fans perhaps? :D

Date: 2008-06-29 07:09 am (UTC)Ahhhh MAN! brilliant brilliant brilliant. The show brought tears to my eyes twice: The Invasion, beginning with the transmission even though I'd already seen the clip of it, and The Doctor & Rose reunion, for what it was.
I guess it might of been similar, but he just felt like Davros to me, kinda different, but still good ol' Davros; how he's been able to see all this time without visible eyes I have no frakking idea. :P So far I guess the actor was good. :) I'm glad he had a part in The Time War. I mean, makes sense, but with his almost constant exile with The Daleks it could of been possible he wasn't although the troubled little Daleks could of cowarded to him for help YET again. :p His new Daleks bread from his own flesh, perfect. I don't know what to think of the war being altered by Dalek Caan though. I was wondering if that was him; I had no memory of his name, but I was confused as to why he was in the shape he was.
I was surprised by the appearance of Harriet Jones; I'm glad I avoid spoilers, for the most part. I kinda liked she sort of went full circle although she probably didn't see it that way, and now I kinda agree with her actions previous, kinda. Whatever happened to the Torchwood Weapon anyways? Of the top of my head I couldn't recall if it was ever mentioned after TCI.
Yeah, Judoon, Proclamation, perfect sense.
That was the worst ending in the history of television...at least that's how it felt. I feel like I'm crashing right now. xP
I'll watch the Confidential tomorrow...

Date: 2008-06-29 12:54 pm (UTC)I got a little teary eyed several times though didn't cry. When Harriet Jones got exterminated, the reunion and the omgwtfbbq!regeneration part.
Interesting about the new Daleks made from his flesh, that was brilliant. As for Dalek Caan, I'm guessing whatever caused him to go insane is the same that caused his current condition because he was intact when he shifted out in Evolution of the Daleks. Interacting in the Time War and maybe being used the way he is by Davros caused it.
I liked Harriet Jones quite a bit in AOL/WWT but not so much in TCI. I like that she did something good and was able to help. I don't think the weapon was ever mentioned again, at least not that I can remember. Unless of course it was in Torchwood somewhere.
I'm planning on watching the Confidential today as well, didn't have time last night.

Date: 2008-06-29 06:15 pm (UTC)I was teary from the reunion to the end. I think I did shed a couple tears. :P
Yeah probably, but if so, you'd think he'd have external injuries also with his suit damaged like that. Yeah, I can totally see Davros experimenting on him. It's kinda interesting Davros has a Supreme Dalek working for him; he didn't seem to care for the idea in the classic stories, but he might just not feel intimidated by it because he engineered it himself. I kinda wish the Daleks were white & gold or just something other than their regular New Who look.
Well yeah I did & didn't either, but it just made me wonder whether The Doctor was right or wrong with what he did. Who knows.
Haven't done yet, but soon. :)

Date: 2008-06-30 05:28 pm (UTC)I've since cried now from the reunion to the end part ;P
I would have thought Davros to be pretty confident in his near army though it was interesting when he said to the Supreme Dalek about that very same thing. I wouldn't mind seeing a white & gold Dalek but I really like the red one too :D
I have briefly pondered the same though I'm not sure Harriet Jones did the right thing either. If he hadn't done what he did though, she might have done the same thing again but not all the visiting aliens are hostile right? It'd wouldn't be good practice to go blowing every one out of the sky. But yeah, who know really.
:D

Date: 2008-06-30 11:51 pm (UTC)I'm planning on watching Turn Left & Stolen Earth again sometime before I watch the last episode; I wonder if I'll tear again, I know I did a little again when seeing the bit in the Confidential. xP
See I would of even been ok with the normal daleks being red too, something different besides the Supreme Dalek & him being red, just to place them apart from the regular daleks we've previously seen in New Who.
Yeah, it's kinda hard to know where to draw the line.
That was a good Confidential, I really enjoyed it. :) It was interesting that the Davros actor was the creepy Sideshow guy from Torchwood; I kinda liked that episode especially him in it.

Date: 2008-07-01 06:20 am (UTC)I watched The Stolen Earth again tonight, I'll most likely watched it and Turn Left yet again before the finale.
And that creepy sideshow guy was creepy! And he's creepy as Davros, which I think works brilliantly. Well, creepy in that evil sort of way you know :P

Date: 2008-06-30 05:33 pm (UTC)Does he see out of that eye? How exactly does he see?
(no subject)
Date: 2008-06-30 11:53 pm (UTC)You see, I have no freaking idea. They never addressed it in the classic stories; I guess they just expected people to figure it out. He must see out of it especially because those sockets of his are surely empty. :P

Date: 2008-06-29 07:23 am (UTC)Was I the only one who thought Davros' head looked a lot like 'old Doctor' from last series finale? Perhaps they used the same prosthetic or something but I thought his face, especially during the side profile shot looked very similar.
I agree. I think they reworked that prop.
