It was good, I really liked it. I had wanted to re-read the book before seeing it but since my books are still in storage that didn't happen and I was a bit rusty on remembering certain events from the books. Though I did notice several differences and changes throughout the film of things that I did remember. I don't think any of the changes that I noticed really bothered me except maybe when Harry wasn't petrified by Dumbledore but instead stayed below like he was asked. It bothered me a little at first because I thought surely he wouldn't just stay down there but thinking about it after the fact, he trusted Dumbledore and was doing as he asked and by extension Snape as well I think until of course Avada Kedavra, and well, you know.

And the poor burrow :( though it definitely got the point of a war going on across, not a bad addition to the film I guess. But I was disappointed that the best line from the book: "I'm not worried Harry, I'm with you." was left out. It's lines like that that made it so poignant and I really expected it to be included in the movie. The book made me cry during all that and I did shed a tear or two during the film as well. When Dumbledore was killed by Snape and when they found him on the lawn made me tear up a bit. I also wish we had more from when Harry was chasing Snape away from the castle afterward. Because it was during that part that I knew where Snape's loyalties really lied (with Dumbledore) and was convinced of it.

Everyone did such a good job with their portrayals, I was especially impressed with Tom Felton's Draco and the actor who played Slughorn. And of course the trio, they're just great. It's funny because we've basically watched the cast grow up threw these movies.

I also loved Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes and wish we had a bit more of that too but it was much fun. heehhe.

"WHY ARE YOU WORRYING ABOUT YOU-KNOW-WHO?
YOU SHOULD BE WORRYING ABOUT U-NO-POO
THE CONSTIPATION SENSATION THAT'S GRIPPING THE NATION!"

And during this part, out of the blue, I was struck with the overwhelming desire to see one of the Phelps' twins as the Doctor. I think it was Oliver (George Weasley) who caught my eye and made me think this. I'd like to see this with him wearing something similar to the suit they wore in WWW and of course with the red hair because he'd finally get to be ginger. Hmm, yes, I like it.

Tell me you don't see the potential for this at some point hmmm? Maybe something about him reminded me of Ten or a Ten mannerism and it's my subconscious trying to hold onto him as long as possible? Anyway, I digress...

So, yes I liked the film and despite the changes (or the ones that I noticed right off anyway) I think it was done really well and some parts were just hilarious. A good mix of seriousness and humor indeed. I definitely want to see it again, I'd like to see it again in the theatre but I don't know if that'll happen or not. Though if I do re-watch it in the theatre again, it'll be a different theatre because this one had about the most uncomfortable seats ever. And there was something on the screen, it looked like a smashed spider or something and it was always right where someone's eye or nose was and it was very distracting.

*thumbs up for HP*

I may write more again later after I've had a chance to let it all soak in my brain again.

*Spoilers for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince of course.

I agree completely. I loved it. I noticed the changes too. I have to say kudos to Alan Rickman, because even though most people(especially those who haven't read the 7th book) assume he's bad, he's not and even at this point in the story Alan did a superb job of portraying that, even with just the look in his eyes and demeanor.

Yeah! I think I forgot to mention him when I was talking above about that but he did a really good job with that too! I think so good that had I not read the books and known what was going to happen, I wouldn't know what to think about him now whether he is actually good or bad at this point. I want to watch it again.

Holy Crap, I loved this movie SO MUCH. I completely agree with you though about the Snape/Harry showdown at the end. I NEEDED those lines from Snape. The 'Don't you dare call me a coward' and 'You're going to have to to better than that!' I also needed Snape teaching them the important stuff in DADA because that's also a clue about where he's really loyal.

However, the conversation between Dumbledore and Snape made it all seem pretty obvious to me.

anyway, loved it loved it!!

Yeah, I think if I missed anything the most it was the stuff with Snape & Harry and then Dumbledore's line. Those were parts in the book that really stuck with me and I wished we had more of it in the movie but like you said, it was all conveyed really well with how they did it.

Now that I've had time to digest it all, I really think they did good with everything and I really want to watch it again. I wonder if it's playing on the IMAX? That'd be awesome.

It was just so...freaking...funny! Even the subtle Alan Rickman parts "You've just earned yourself a month's detention..."
I couldn't get over how adorable those boys were too. lol Daniel kind of channelled the Doctor a couple of times, I swear!
I really liked it as well. Definitely seeing it again. :D

I liked the humor of the movie, but around the end of it I began to be annoyed. I know movies leave things out, but out of all the changes and omissions, I think the one that bothered me the most was the lack of info on the other horcruxes. At the end of HBP, Harry has a goal - he knows the general idea of what kind of objects he needs to find. In the movie, all he has is a fake horcrux and the RAB note.

And how are they going to tie in the fall of the ministry if there's no wedding and no burrow? I really hope they do the last book justice in the two movies they're making of it because it seems to me that the people that haven't read the books are missing out on some important info. I'd hate to see that happen with the last book.

Overall, I liked the majority of the movie up until the end. No battle at Hogwarts. No explanations. Dunno, just seemed lacking there at the end.

I am curious why some things were left out, especially the battle at Hogwarts but I think the attack on the burrow and all got the point across. (I forgot about the wedding!) I got the impression from the end of the movie that Harry did indeed have a goal, he knew what he was going to do despite us not having more info on the horcruxes. Then again maybe it's just obvious to me because I've read the books. Which I want to read again before I watch this again. I do wonder what they do have planned for the next movie but I think they've done a good job with them so far, I think they will for the last one too.
