Kireh Hawke, Mage.
So I've finished, my first play-through at least. I'm pleased enough with the outcome from the choices I made. Sided with the Mages, forgave Anders even after destroying the Chantry (wtf Anders, srsly!) and ran off with him in the end to complete the romance. I really enjoyed playing as a Mage and want to do another playthrough as a Mage to friendmance Fenris but my next play-through will likely be as a rogue. I'll still romance Fenris though. I also want to see the difference between siding with the Mages or Templars for the ending though I will find it difficult to want to side with the Templars. Even though finding out Orsino supported Quentin and turned into an Abzorbaloff royally ticked me off.
As for my Mage build, I went primal/force with a hint of spirit healing. I had Anders as my healer, Aveline as my main tank, and I switched out Varric and Isabella for dps. Varric sometimes fared better since he's ranged with Bianca but Isabella's comments were too funny for me not to want to have her along most the time. Especially in a party with Aveline: "Shut up, whore!" ROFL. Ander's didn't always heal to what I set his tactics at and he would often be the first to fall during really though fights so I sometimes would switch him out for Merrill as I had her specced as a true Blood Mage and she's pretty freakin' awesome, surprisingly. Even though I don't condone the use of blood magic, of course. But my main combination really worked well for me and we were pretty much unstoppable. I'll be interesting to see how things change for when I up the difficulty.
I also friendshiped everyone at 100% except Sebastian whom I got to late in the game and decided I didn't want to bother with. He stormed off vowing vengeance anyway after I refused to kill Anders. I also never got Carver to 100% because he annoyed me and I left him behind a lot until he ran off to join the Templars. Though he came back in the end and helped fight Meredith with me so that was cool. Man did she go evil craaaaaazy cakes. I didn't put two and two together about her and the idol until it was revealed but I enjoyed that surprise.
So yeah, I really enjoyed this game even though it frustrated me with some of the outcome, but I think it was just meant to be that way no matter what you choose. Damn you Bioware for making me care! If there's ever a DA3, I do hope it works in the manner of ME and you can import your DA2 character, that'd be awesome.
Now the question is... do I start my next play-through already or do I work on the ME & DA video capture project I've started? Decisions, decisions.
Spoilers within. You've been warned.

Date: 2011-04-10 09:28 pm (UTC)I'm playing a mage now, and it's definitely different. It's fun, though. I'm still going to romance Isabela because Fenris is just so damn moody lol. The only class I haven't played is the archer rogue, and I think I might actually make a male Hawke for that. And guess who he's going to romances? LOL
I do like Isabela because she seems to be, ironically, the only character in the game whom you can change for the better. And she's so damn funny. Friend-fiction! ROFL
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I know a lot of people are complaining that EA made Bioware release the game too early, and the fact that there are a lot of bugs and the recycled lairs annoy people, too. Me? I really don't care. I actually found the storyline compelling and interesting and very much in shades of gray. I don't mind it so much now that I know what to do to make friends with everyone, hehe.
I really enjoy this game for the story. It also cracks me up. :D

Date: 2011-04-10 09:40 pm (UTC)I really liked mage, but am curious about the other classes. I know I didn't care for taking control of Aveline/Fenris the few times that I did, but I've never really enjoyed playing tank class, I like healing or doing fast damage the best :p
That's curious about Isabella and maybe it's different if you romance her, but it didn't seem she truly changed for the better until the end. Like her betrayal apology after you defeated the Arishok just didn't seem that endearing to me. So many options in this game tho lol.
I was annoyed at first with the fact that every cave, mansion or dungeon etc.. were exactly the same layout but in the end, it just made it easier for me to find my way around so whatev. That said, I don't want to see recycling like that in ME3 though :P
I enjoyed the story and the character interactions, that's what it's about for me too :D

Date: 2011-04-10 11:13 pm (UTC)Anyway! I am doing the same thing (or trying to) starting a new girl to romance Fenris and side with the templars. (IT'S SO HARD FOR ME TO BE MEAN TO ANDERS!!! SO HARD!!)

Date: 2011-04-11 12:13 am (UTC)Heh, I've started my second playthru already. I did pretty good with both Anders & Fenris the first time, once I'd figured it out, by just keeping them separated and only taking them on quests that they found agreeable until they were at 100%, then it didn't matter. Since I'll be romancing Fenris this time, I'll have him with me more as I had Anders with me more the first time. Also, I'll probably kill Anders this go around in the Gallows, even though I do feel some sort of loyalty to him from the my game. This games gonna drive me bonkers LOL.

Date: 2011-04-11 12:29 am (UTC)Even if you have Sebastian at 100 he'll storm away unless you off Anders. It makes it hard for me to care with him now that I know how things happen, because if I know I'm going to keep Anders around, I know Sebastian's gone.
Also, Orsino. I heart him and am still convinced he'd have been the best first enchanter ever if he'd been anywhere but Kirkwall. I can't help but forgive his evil crazy, even though he did make me rage in the end there.
I find siding with the templars doesn't have to be bad. I'm doing a templar playthrough and like, it's not as much pro-putting-down-mages as pro-protecting-everyone, if you play it right. I see it as just being like, you've seen the alternative, so the circle is the lesser of two evils, if you play that angle. idk, I'm so pro-mages it's hard.
OMG FENRIS FENRIS FENRIS LET ME KNOW ONCE YOU'VE ROMANCED HIM SO WE CAN FENGIRL KTHX.

Date: 2011-04-11 04:53 am (UTC)Hmm, that's interesting to know. I probably would have been ticked if he stormed off at 100% not knowing it ahead of time LOL.
Yeah, I liked him up until the end. And of course finding out that he supported the dude who killed your mother, I didn't have much love for that either :P
That's why I'm trying to do, since I'm pro-mage to begin with, I'm going to try and play it pro-everyone to make it easier to side with the templars. It's still hard though, like you said.
Heheh Fenris. You know, he sort of annoyed me at first because he was so broody and emo but he got better later and I'm rather curious to see how his conversations with Hawke change while in a romance with him.
